Types of pool pump leaks

First check whether there is a leak. Then determine what kind of leak it is.

Generally, there are three kinds of leak. They are:

1. Excessive splash or normal evaporation

2. Swimming pool shell leaks

3. Swimming pool plumbing leaks

How to confirm Evaporation or Leaks

A little bit of water tends to evaporate from the pool because of the sun and sometimes a little amount of water drips out of the pool because of the swimmers. So check the cause of water loss. To check whether the loss of water is due to evaporation, place a large container filled with water on the first step of the swimming pool. After making the level of the water in the container parallel to the pool's water level, leave the container at that very spot for some days and observe the changes.

After some days, if the water level of the pool and the container move downward for the same amount then it is confirmed that the process of evaporation is causing the loss of water from the pool. This also means that there is no leakage in the pool. Suppose the water level of the pool has moved downward and it is more than the water in the container, then it is confirmed that there is a leak in the pool somewhere. It is this leak which is causing the loss of water.

How to spot the leak

To find the leak, examine the pool pump and filter first. If you notice any damp area or water spots, then try to trace from where the water is coming from. It could be a joint on any particular area on the pump. In this situation, turn on the pump and examine the source of the leak. If a leak has been found, go for plumbing the same.

If no leak has been found in the pump, then it could be the pool shell leaking to cause loss of water from the pool.

Thus, it is always advised to get help from a well qualified professional to do the repairing.

With these basic pointers to help you, don't worry about leaks in your pool. Follow these pointers and then decide whether you need to get a professional to help you with the repairs.
