Automatic Pool Cleaners

What Are Automatic Pool Cleaners And How Do They Work?

Automatic pool cleaners take the debris and other garbage out of the pool and put the enjoyment, fun and frolic back into the pool. Automatic pool cleaners come for both above ground pools as well as in ground pools. They vary in prices. There are three basic designs of automatic pool cleaners.

These are:

1. Suction side

2. Pressure side

3. Robotic pool cleaners

Lets briefly discuss each design to understand how it works.

Suction side

Suction side cleaners are attached to pool plumbing on the suction side. They are usually attached at the pool skimmer. For pool cleaners, some pools have vacuum port. Suction is established below the pool cleaner by the pool's filter pump. The suction side pool cleaner design sucks the small debris and dirt through a hose into the filter and basket.

This design of the pool cleaner makes the cleaner similar to pool vacuum cleaners. For all pool types, different suction side pool cleaners are available. The main advantage of the suction side pool cleaner is that it hardly requires any additional parts to connect to any pool. Kreepy Krauly pool cleaner is a very popular suction side pool cleaner.

Pressure side cleaners

Pressure side cleaners are hooked up to the pressure side of the pool plumbing system. Pressure side of the plumbing system returns the filtered and clean water to the pool. Using the power of the water pressure, this cleaner pushes the dirt and debris into an attached bag which is meant to collect dirty things. Pressure side pool cleaners do not put additional pressure on the pool's filter system. This is its main advantage.

Pressure side pool cleaners also play a very important role in distributing clean water throughout the swimming pool. Pressure side pool cleaners are in-ground pool cleaners. Letro and Polaris are the primary pressure side pool cleaner manufacturers. The pressure side pool cleaners are more expensive than suction side pool cleaners.

Robotic pool cleaners

Robotic pool cleaners are self-contained pool cleaners which can be put in swimming pools as and when required. Robotic pool cleaners are generally plugged into an electric outlet, using a long wiring cord. There is a transformer inside the unit which provides low voltage to motors inside it. One motor inside the robotic pool cleaners brings out the debris and the other motor moves the unit around the swimming pool.

Some models of the robotic pool cleaners float randomly while others are installed to follow a particular pattern. Robotic pool cleaners can be installed in any type of swimming pools. All robotic pool cleaners have their own self-contained filter. They also put no pressure on pool's filtering system. They do not need any manual operation to run filtration system for pool cleaning.

With this information, you can decide which design works best for your pool. Remember, whatever you decide, that decision is what brings back the fun and frolic to your good pool times.
